AMOUR FOU / INVASION - we can never be saved split 7" (harvest king)
AMOUR
FOU is a bass/drum combo from regina, saskatchewan canada. making all
sorts of fast punk racket that might make one think of black flag mixed
with jawbreaker. especially likeable lyrics sung in a rough punk/pop
punk style.
INVASION is definitely the 'pissed' side of this record. a full barrage
of dischord, glass shattering vocals, and heavy like Weekend Nachos
hardcore/powerviolence. more of a 90's feel than recent 4th wave PV.
i imagine this band implodes/explodes live. maybe HOLY SHIT! is an apt comparison as well.
interesting split.

ANTILLES / STAPH - split 7" (inkblot) $4
Chicago, IL's STAPH and Ohio's ANTILLES meet up for the third and final volume of the first Inkblot Records split 7" series. Veteran band ANTILLES delivers three new short blasts of fast, aggresive '90s style Screamo with unique intensity. Over-the-top screamed vocals and buzzing, jangly guitar work saturate the first and third tracks while bass-driven, quieter nervous riffs prevail on the second instrumental song. STAPH rises from the ashes of the now defunct LION OF THE NORTH and play urgent and frenetic chaos mixed with darkly melodic Post-Hardcore. Hyper-technical riffing and shaky energy are felt throughout the six minute plus epic they deliver on this split.

ARCHAGATHUS / SAKATAT - split 7" (bullshit propaganda) $4
Manitoba mince masters mind the musical melange of modern day. Alliteration aside, these Canadian grindheads bring another ripping four song side of musicical mayhem akin to AGATHOCLES or ROT. Turkish grinders SAKATAT throw together eight crucial blasts just in time for Obscene Extreme. If you have not heard either band, do yourself a huge favor and snap this up while you can.

BLACK SEPTEMBER / THOU - thrive & decay split 7" (gilead) $4
Thrive & Decay was originally released as a cooperative effort between six labels in 2008, limited to 1000 copies on black vinyl. Having sold out over the course of a few short months, Gilead stepped up to repress this epic pairing of songs with brand new artwork, remastered audio, and on clear red vinyl.
This split is not only a split between two great bands from two very different parts of the US, it's an astonishing showing of power by two very young bands. Black September, Chicago, IL, offer “Under The Rising,” a diverse 6 minutes of death metal/thrash with touches of dooming riffage. THOU, Baton Rouge, LA, unveil one of their most politically charged and crushingly heavy sludge tunes thus far, “Smoke Pigs.” Complete with the sample excluded from the first pressing. The first time I heard the split I was blown away by the vitality and passion put into both songs. “Smoke Pigs” and “Under the Rising” really compliment each other despite the fact that they're sonically very different. includes a free download of the entire split.
Includes the "Talk to Cops" poster coinciding with the Smoke Pigs song, originally excluded from the first pressing.

BLOCKED OUT - torn throats 7" (television) $4
heavy, occasionally melodic hardcore out of cali not unlike Ruiner meets Pulling Teeth. definitely got the solos goin on ala PT, but this is a bit more out of hand and gritty, even rocking like an early MLIW. i can imagine piling up on the mic and kids losing it.
solid stuff for sure.

BORED STRAIGHT - s/t 7" (data control)
If throwback early ‘80s hardcore was an illness (and I’m sure some would argue it is), then this ....Wisconsin quartet would be terminal. What makes Bored Straight stand out from any number of bands playing this brand of punk? It doesn’t look like much. But! It might be the fact they totally know it and flaunt it with pride ala illusions of early ‘80s hardcore bands such as Die Kruezen and Minor Threat. Either way, it rips.

BUFO - moderni ja maailman tuho 2x7" $7
10 new tracks of Finnish grindcore with a Terveet Kädet cover (!!). off the rails madness with Napalm Death, random death metal and dbeats crashing all over this double vinyl, nicely packaged in a gatefold cover. much like the split w/warkorpse, but way more insane, wasted and live sounding. nice.

COACCION - revolver 7" (vex)
Six blazing new tracks from the "Satan Punx Mafia" from Tijuana, Mexico. COÄCCION have been belting out killer crust punk for the last several years and have released a string of exceptionally good 7" eps, with this being the latest. Nice pocket sleeve packaging includes a full color insert.
myspace.com/coaccion
CONTROL DE ESTADO - ladron 7" (ifb)
Rapid-fire hardcore imbued with speed and rawness and the second EP by
Floridians Control De Estado (State Control). Actually, the production
here is cleaned up a bit but it doesn't smooth out any of this band's
ferocity. Alonso has a murderous, barking cadence, with words in both
English and Spanish and taking on prejudice, colonialism and
globalization. Something to think about while the bass-led breakdown of
"Myth Grand Narrative" makes you want to wreck people--in a fun way, of
course--and there's some serious guitar flay on that song, as well.
Cool packaging, with the recycled paper sleeve folding out into a
poster. Potent rage.
myspace.com/controldeestado
CORROSIVE / BOHRHOLM - split 7" (fucking kill)
Corrosive play pissed powerviolence inspired HC not unlike Citizens Arrest.
makes sense as this was recorded (4track?) way back in 96. totally raw and rippin in a Richord/Heresy kind of way as well. Bohrholm split things open with six tracks of SlapAHam inspired hc/grind. the old 'choppy part into 90's blast into breakdown' thing is at work here. everything in the red. kind of a lost gem here. packaged in a handmade gatefold w/glued on art.

COWER - hatred songs 7' (television)
from portland, not dbeat, feat. Logan from Forced March, etc.
something of a more powerviolence version of Loaded For Bear.
(re: stop start PV sludge vs grindcore, sort of) simpler lyrics, just as pissed.
there is something southern about this that reminds me of fucked up florida stuff like MehkagoNT, Merkit even. sorry to play the obscure name-drop, but this is some weird, awesome shit. 6 songs on one side and one JohnCaution/weekend nachos acid flashback stomach crusher on the bside. love the name too.

CROWD CONTROL / MOB RULES - split 7" (suburban mayhem industries) $4
Possibly the most delayed split record ever, and consequently one of the most feverishly anticipated (so much so that most of the copies are already spoken for!do not sleep on this!).Dublin heretics CROWD CONTROL deliver thre songs of almost primal force here, that manages to somehow be heavy without being metal and blindingly fast without being grindcore. Gutteral, god-hating hardcore punk. MOB RULES from Leeds in England get the "power violence" tag thrown at them a lot of the time, but we're not going to make it that easy - think a rabid intersection of frantic speed, noise damaged riffing, and tense delivery and you're there. Probably the best band in the UK right now, and these tracks are the follow up to their already sold out "The Donor" 7" on Super Fi/Zandor.

CRUCIAL CAUSE / RAT DAMAGE - split 7' (flat black)
YES, New Crucial Cause material! Crucial Cause come back w more of their ripping take on NY style hardcore punk but done via the Bay Area,, still in this early YOT mode (esp in the lyrics but musically a little as well) but a bit more Abused/Antidote in the works on these tunes too which I think makes them better,, their new 7'' should be out in a few months. Rat Damage also from Norcal is also old sounding but more in the standard way of USHC, not really sounding from anywhere is what I'm getting at,, good stuff. Limited to a very small 400 copies, and are numbered!

CULTURE SHOCK - s/t 7' (barbarossa)
debut EP from Syracuse's native sons of hateful HC punk. Pummeling guitar parts and venomous lyrics about the sad state of mankind. A blend of traditional hardcore, thrashcore and even some grind thrown into the mix taking cues from bands like INFEST and fellow Upstate NY heroes BAD BUSINESS and BLACK SS.

DAGGERS RULE - gleaming the 'cuse 7' (barbarossa)
Compiling two of the best demos to come out of Syracuse, NY in I don't know how long... eight tracks of vicious hardcore with a unique sound. Equal parts of 80's skatecore, US streetpunk and classic Boston hardcore with a healthy crossover tinge.

DAYLIGHT ROBBERY - washtenaw 7" (residue)
The first EP from this Chicago band featuring members of Pedestrians, Manhandlers, and 14 or Fight. Amazing Dangerhouse style punk with male/ female vocals that pushes the boundries between garage rock and modern punk with its solid song writting and edginess that is the cornerstone of the current Chicago DIY scene. All 4 songs on this EP rip-out a steady steam of melodies with an intensity and honesty that keeps the wax firmly planted on any turntable.

DAYLIGHT ROBBERY - red tape 7" (residue)
After releasing one of the best punk/garage rock EPs last year, Daylight Robbery doesn’t let up a notch on this hot new 3 song recording. The A-side takes off with classic Dangerhouse- style punk with male/female vocals that bend and weave together in subtle melodic harmonies. Comparisons come and go with everything from X to Guerilla Angreb to Gun Club, but Daylight Robbery has this way of blending in more than just influences or retro/classic punk. The B-side (Circles) is one of the most haunting and atmospheric tracks that climbs to an almost insane intensity that underlines this whole EP. Red Tape will no doubt turn heads and have you hoping for a future Daylight Robbery full-length LP.

DEEP SHIT / HAVE FUN - split 7"
This split brings together two raging fastcore/powerviolence thrash rippers. Deep Shit lays to the platter fast and high energy thrashcore. Raw and grindy vocals lay over fast and catchy thrashcore. On the same vein as a Killed In Action style, with thrash breaks and throaty vocals. Have Fun shred the vinyl with a more powerviolence fueled thrashcore. Along the lines of Spazz and early sounding bands, combined with a feel of Crucial Unit styled thrashcore.

EL BANDA - wisi mi el banda 7" (pasazer) $4
A Brandnew 3 Track CD of Warsaws EL BANDA, thankfully freshly reformed to rock out live again! Contains 3 new very melodic and catchy punk rock tracks with amazingly female vocals and a very massive sounding production. Even more they come really close to inherit the energy and power and spirit that POST REGIMENT left behind after their demise! The Bass lines are thick and pounding, the guitar riffage very structured and hence it..s more melodic than their debut LP this comes not even close to be boring and mediocre... play loud!

EXPENDABLE YOUTH - s/t 7' (shaman)
the vinyl debut for these chicago folks and honestly i didnt know what to expect having missed them live, not paying enough attention, etc.
but this is one ripper of a record. a little metallic intro and wham! we're knee deep in melodic hardcore/crust, catchy as all fucking get out. i think its the little melo-metal flourishes that makes it for me. dual vocals covering lyrics about the future olympics in chicago ('2016'), prisons and capitalism/class.
explanations included as well, which is always a nice touch. that and you get a a patch and the vinyl is that nice black/clear split. pretty friggin ace!!!!
myspace.com/expendableyouth5
EXPENDABLE YOUTH / CUT THE REINS - split 7" (injusticeofhumanity/medistro) $4
Fuckin' Epic. Expendable Youth's 6 minute thrashy melodic crust dominates faces. The song is full of palm muted harmoninzing metallic guitar riffs, screeching vox, and sum pounding fuckin drums that make up Expendable's sick style. Also there is a pretty as shit clean part that will make you want to slow dance until the song blasts you in the face again. Theres alot of bands doing this style right now, but few do it nearly as good, and out of that few Expendable is one of the best. And on the other side of the split is a band from ireland called Cut the Reins. I heard a demo before and since then something incredible happened to them between that time because their side is pretty fucking cool. "Built from the Inside" is a dark melodic song with an upbeat tempo mixed with passionate yelled vox that are refreshing. Isolation is very From Ashes Rise sounding with some very cool RAMBO like gang vox. Overall I would compare them to a more upbeat From Ashes Rise with Requiem sounding vox.

FAKE OUT / FEMALE SNAKE - split 7' (goin ape shit)
from MRR
'From the silk-screen manila sleeve, the last thing I expected from this record was fast hardcore, but that's exactly what you get, and not some '90s-wannabe-EVERGREEN record or something. FAKE OUT, from Tucson, drops five tracks of fairly by-the-books fast thrashin' hardcore with crucial breakdown parts. This band woulda fit just fine on bills with TEAR IT UP, NO JUSTICE, SCHOLASTIC DETH, and other bands of that ilk/time in history. On the other side of this platter, FEMALE SNAKE, also hailing from Tucson, is more on the blast-beat to dirge-y hardcore tip. A nice window into a local scene that dosen't get too much coverage, from a label that is doing just that - showcasing their scene.'

GROSS NEGLIGENCE - s/t 7" (flat black)
Debut EP from these young San Diego youth. Pretty good debut record, its described by the Flat Black boys as early Code of Honor-ish but I def hear more of the skate rock sound of the early mid 80's blended with RKL, but again thats what I hear so maybe I am crazy but I can see some elements of the material off of the split w Sick Pleasure sort of sound on this too I guess. Cool record!

HALF GORILLA / KURSK - split 7" (justsayno) $4
a split long in the making best grindcore friends unite!

HARD CHARGER - bombs will reign 7" (nerve hold)
Easilythe gruffest, most venomous band Canada has had since Kittens,Fredericton’s Hard Charger dispel any myth that the Great White Northcan’t blast with the best of them on this ferocious eponymous effort.Taking influences from punk rock’n’roll’s expediency, as defined bygenre greats such as Zeke and Hookers, yet roughing up the edges evenmore with the curtness and low-end rumbling exemplified by Venom,Disfear and Discharge, Hard Charger is a relentless hammering offrenzied drums, crackling guitars and guttural vocals that borders onan attack equivalent to Death Breath or Blood Duster. Gutsy andconfrontational without seeming bone-headed, there’s a sinister aura about Hard Charger.

HATE - crimes 7" (vanthrax) $4
Based out of Chicago, IL, Hate combines elements of hardcore, punk, metal, sludge, and crust to create a sound similar to the likes of Rorschach, Gehenna, and more recently Pulling Teeth & the Holy Mountain. Crimes is the band's fourth effort (preceded by three demos) and carries just as much weight, remorse, anger, and violence as their previous material. Although only three tracks in length, Crimes is a visceral and dark listening experience. With the break-neck fury in Scab Nation and Life Taker, mixed with the scathing and chaotic vocal delivery over Spreading Infection, it's a wonder why this band hasn't garnered more attention than they already have.

M:40 / SAND CREEK MASSACRE - split 7" (headnoise / halvfabrikat/ravochol) $4
M:40 have a few releases behind them by now, and on the three tracks on this split they continute to develop their hardcore/crust sound. It's fast and aggressive, but they aren't afraid to lower the tempo and perform some crushing tones and powerful rhythms as well. Faster and slower crustcore in a well executed blend. M:40 convinces more and more for each release.
Sand Creek Massacre are more dark in their approach and falls under the category of "modern crustcore". Not at all as aggressive and explosive as M:40, but solid stuff.

While the label is known for releasing youthful, energetic hardcore from southern California, this is a heavy-as-fuck face-ripper from Sweden that is very much working within the tradition of that country's great history of heavy crust (Anti-Cimex, Avskum, Skitkids, etc.). If you're the kind of person who hunts down obscure Japanese crust records, this 7" is for you... recommended!

METRALLETA / DISKOIRAA - split 7" (mangel/discosenfermos/khhapsmch)
2 of the active bands at the moment in the hardcore scene in zarautz (basque country) ,this time sharing a split 7”.
Diskoirää continues with their 80s swedish (mob47,etc) sound but with a little more hardcore than of punk than their previous ep. fast and crude with vocals reminiscient of Italian hardcore bands of the 80s .
Metralleta on the other hand, after a split with Kobory, fills up the other side w/intelligent and quick extreme hardcore.
obscure, wicked stuff from the Basque Country.

MERKIT / RESURRECTIONISTS - split 7" (ifb / react with protest)
4 new Merkit songs, downtuned all to hell. Venom fueled scathing HC/punk with full lyrical explanations (in German too!) of course. Resurrectionists hail from Germany and play pulverizing grinding HC with touches of melodic chords amidst the chaos. This is tight, very heavy, and has multiple vocalists, all of which will bowl you over.

MISANTROPIC / DEATHRACE - split 7" (up yours/halvfabrikat/more) $4
Misantropic arose from the ashes of Personkrets 3:1 and continue along the lines of their last EP "Ruiner" with their crustcore/råpunk mix with some added death as well as thrash metal elements - but always remaining on the hardcore side of things.
Deathrace were a short lived band with members who previously have been seen in such acts as Svart Parad, Asocial, Uncurbed, Crossing Chaos, First Degree Murder, Visions, Centinex and Dellamorte. With Deathrace they produce similar stuff to what Misantropic are doing, only with a more nihilistic raw punk approach.

MOHORAM ATTA - desolate, motherfuckers 7" (UNHOLY THRASH)
Black metal influenced hardcore with really great lyrics. This EP has 4 songs, and it crushes you all the way through while remaining interesting.
as seen on the split LP w/Thou. Highly recommended. " href="http://myspace.com/mohoramatta">myspace.com/mohoramatta
MUTINY - s/t 7" (creepcore/justsayno/more)
Grinding crust from Victoria, BC featuring members of ISKRA and LEPER. 11 tracks of anarchist brutality. Not much more to be said aside from these guys possibly being one of Canada’s best grind bands.

NEVER BUILT RUINS - schutt und asche 7" (rinderherz/prugelprinz)
Follow up to their previous 10", NBR second release are 4 new tracks of full throttle rocking Crustpunk/Hardcore... A slight D Beat is unmistakable but they don..t even come close to be just a "clone" hence their still ain..t "New" as well... this is a good follow up to bands like DOOMTOWN (but way more political motivated here!) and BOMBENALARM... actually they remind me alot of the latter... NEVER BUILT RUINS a a fusion from folx living in Switzerland and the (mentally) wastelands of south germany, are nice folx and you should check out this 7" right now! Comes in a nice Sleeve bag with well don artwork.

NITAD - ge oss mer 7" (no way) $4
Originally released on Kranium Records a couple years ago in a small run of 200 copies, this ep was just TOO good to keep it out of print and unavailable for mass consumption. 5 tracks here, and for sure none of them will dissapoint. If you've heard their lp or past few 7"es, you know they are a swedish hardcore punk powerhouse. They have a hard sound to describe as it's pummeling with power, yet still keeping the melody and staying catchy enough to remember what's going on ever after listening. NITAD have been on their A game for the last couple years and it doesn't look they plan on slowing down

NITAD - Nu Borjar Minnena Komma Tillbaka 7" (no way) $4
Brand new 7" From Sweden's NITAD. On this platter they have 4 great tracks of their awesome brand of Swedish Meets US Hardcore punk. I really think this is definetly their best stuff to date. Best songwriting, best recording, best art, just all around perfect. The songs are catchy but just so powerful and in your face, it's rediculous. Incredible bass lines, Incredible guitar leads, pummeling drums and furious but well sung vocals all round this record out very well. This isn't rehash hardcore punk, that's why it's so hard to describe and their so underestimated, but do yourself a favor and pick it up, NITAD RULES!

OILTANKER - crusades 7" (bullshit propaganda) $4
This is the second EP of material from Connecticut's Oiltanker. Improving on their debut release, the boys pound out 6 new tracks of crushing dbeat-fueled punk. It can't be stated enough that Oiltanker has something to satisfy everyone, combining the sound of CT/ New England crust roots , while simultaneously adding new elements and innovations enough to keep you from saving your money for more Disrupt reissues. This EP also features brain-tickling art from their drummer, color vinyl, and a silver foil sticker.

PERSONKRETS 3:1 - ruiner 7" (halvfabrikat)
What I have here is their epitaph; a 7” vinyl named “Ruiner” and all I
can say is that if you liked “The Glorious Dead” you’ll like this. The
style is the same and as is often the case, mixing d-beat, crust punk,
metal riffs and an over-distorted bass is always a good idea! pretty friggin pissed and awesome!!
A couple of the band members went on and formed Misantropic, my guess is they will use a lot of d-beat, crust and pissed off vocals

PIZZA - s/t 7" (sons of vesta) $4
grungy/lo-fi punkrock trio from sterling, virginia, crunchy and punky and, useless to say, great. think about a raw mix of early green day tunes with some dinosaur jr and nirvana hints here and there. this is a selection of songs from their self released demotape, we were crazy about it and we couldn't really miss this chance! comes along with a cdr containing the full demotape, whoa!
featuring ex and current members of madams, mannequin, pg.99, tideland, pygmy lush.

PROJECT HOPELESS - av hela mitt hjarta 7" (not enough/distroy/more) $4
Different from their previous material; you could say harder and more crushing in a way, yet with the same attitude and sincerity as always. Add to that a really interesting interpretation of a Swedish hiphop-artists song ("Av hela mitt hjärta" - best track on the record), an absolutely fantastic mastering of the record by Mattias, and you have one hell of a record that outdoes most of the so far released punk records of this year. It..s catchy, has a monstrous sound that hard to come bye, and of course some snazzy sing-a-long choruses making for a rally impact that..s hard to deny. Even the lyrics are well thought through and brings out the essence of the band in a magnificent way.

RATIONAL ANIMALS- Perception Becomes Reality 7" (Feral Kid/Crotch Rot)
This is a musical mental breakdown announcement—with guitars, if I may be so
bold to make a half-Clash reference ("Know Your Rights"—look it up).
Rational Animals create a Flag-ish tumult to muck up your senses.
Actually, I make the reference to the four-bar boys due mainly to the
guitar slash but there's a similar darkness, a lurking danger. Howling
vocals on the edge of sanity and a shattering sound to give 'ya
nightmares.

RAW NERVES - murderers among us 7" (poisoned candy) $4

feat. members of MurderOfCrows, Protest Stagnation, Forced March, Squalora, etc

REGRETS - hope floats and so does shit 7" (fuck this!) $4
I have been following the myriad of groups that the members of REGRETS have been involved with over the past 7 years, all ranging from a wide mix of similar punk/metal/hardcore blends. all sheerly pissed to their own degree. though, it feels like, something prevented these four gents from truly letting loose their inner demons. a level of angst & depression is so strongly apparent & confrontational with the songs found on H.F.A.D.S.S. that it seems to me that the agression found here has been brewing for some time. maybe the breaking point was finally reached, or this could be just the beginning. in the appropriately-titled bleak debut six-track EP from these chicago ragers, the urge to compare this band to the likes of CURSED (RIP) and other Colohan-esque bands is very strong. mood-swings encompassed between each song is ferocious; from blasts of unbridled aggression that is similar to bashing someone's head through a wall, to a brooding change of pace that feels like a nod to fellow canadian band IRE (RIP). their live presence is also unmatched by any hardcore band I've seen in recent memory.

REPULSIONE / ISOLAMENTO - split 7" (de rok/more)
Repulsione plays fast and raw powerviolence. Double-bass, high-power distortion attack with blasting drums. Grindcore 90s style meets thrashcore."Antihuman Powerviolence" contains 5 tracks of thrashin' grindcore powerviolence with socio-political lyrics expressing hatred toward mankind and society. Some influences include: Rot, Agathocles, Yacopsae, Unholy Grave, Cryptic Slaughter, & D.R.I. Isolamento is a thrash hardcore band proudly hailing from Casalecchio. Their sound is influenced by 80s American hardcore like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, D.R.I., Minor Threat, & Bad Brains as well as old school Italian hardcore bands like Negazione and Indigesti. Packed with political and anti-fascist lyrics. 3 fast thrash tracks to start the moshpit!

RESTRAINED - s/t 7' (glory kid)
Like their previous release, the songs on this EP are filled with short,
raw, and pissed off hardcore punk. Opening cut 'Compliant' sets the
stage with punishing drumming and crushing guitars while vocalist Kevan
belts out some sickening screams. Primarily the songs operate out of
the Tragedy-inspired style of punk, but there are flourishes of 90's
metallic hardcore (Integrity) and repetitious metal (Neurosis) heard
throughout the EP. Closer 'The End' is a fine display of the band's
more brooding metal side and an apt closing to this EP.

SIXES - s/t 7" (edman) $4
"This is some really good mid 90s influenced heavy hardcore. I hear a lot of Chokehold and at times Harvest or Hope Conspiracy style influences with the heavier riffing, maybe even a little Undertow creeps in here and there. On top of it lyrics are cool and show an awareness of the world. Well done."

THOU / HAARP - split 7" (one eye/mirror universe) $4
Guess what: a new THOU release! a brutal (and extensive) split 7" from bayou brothers THOU and HAARP. Baton Rouge vs New Orleans, and man alive are these some burly jams! The content of this 7" is pretty much outlandish: classic apocalyptic woodcut imagery, a huge poster insert, a bigass booklet stapled to the interior of the jacket, and cool orangey red "fire" colored vinyl too. Not a bad way to do things at all, and a very appropriate teamup of some of the heaviest bands coming out of the south right now. Pretty stoked on this jammer!

WORMEATERS - cattle cant choose 7" (american waste)
Killer, crushing hardcore from this New Jersey band. I liked their first EP, but this one is definitely a step up. This sounds to me like Sakevi from GISM fronting Wasted Time circa No Shore. Seriously, this is a paint-peeler right here... get it!

v/a - BORED STRAIGHT/ HOLY SHIT! / NORDIC WASTE - split 7" (holyshit) $4
This is my first exposure to Nordic Waste and Bored Straight and I had no idea what to expect from Holy Shit's ever widening and diverse circle of friends. I'm also slightly dubious about compilations of any kind particulary 7" ones but what you get here on this admittedly non-conformist piece of wax is some really really great shit. Nordic Waste come off like some raw death metal shit with more than an element of the crazies, Milwaukee's Bored Straight do their hardcore more savage and have that unmistakable Wisconsin sound that seems to sponge up so many different influences with an almost Subs/wipers-like edginess to their songs. To top it all off ya got Holy Shit! hitting you with short sharp slaps to the fucking face with two new jams exclusive to this record. It's terrifically thought out and well executed throughout and I'm loving it more than I thought I would. It's a really limited record put out by the bands and is sure not to last for too long once word gets around about how good it is. Highly recommended.
