FINISTERRE - bitter songs CD (makinas/detesta/contraszt!)

“Two years after their great split LP with ALPINIST, here is the first own album by FINISTERRE from cologne / germany. “Bitter songs” is a record full of melancholic songs about the bitterness of life. Expect dark, but melodic Hardcore sorrounded by a heavy D-Beat drumming and fronted by a brutal female voice. FINISTERRE managed to create their own interpretation of modern crust by combining epic elements with sweet melodies and calm and contemplative parts turn into moments of anger and despair. The lyrics deal with current poltical issues like the EU-immigration policy and increase of surveillance in public and private spheres as well as they deal with more personal-politcal topics about heteronomy, sexism and death. The records was recorded by Zett in the Tonkeller, Eisenberg and mixed/mastered by Robin Völkert (Now Denial, Dean Dirg). The CD comes with a 20-page booklets with all lyrics and explanations to the songs.

GNAW THEIR TONGUES - all the dread magnificence of perversity CD (crucial blast) 

Picking up where 2008's An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood left off, Gnaw Their Tongues is back with nine new tracks of fearsome blackened orchestral chaos and abstract horror that still sounds like little else out there. On Dread, we're feeling an even heavier bass-assault compared to the other releases, and this is easily the heaviest Gnaw Their Tongues release yet. This monstrous, noxious bottom-end roar that skulks and slithers throughout the album suggests a foul fusion of Abruptum (which is still the closest reference point to Gnaw Their Tongue's black chaos) and Leonard Rosenman's most nightmarish film scores, piled in towering heaps of sadistic noise, warped orchestral strings, degraded samples, shrieking voices, and punishing lurching doom draped in suffocating atrmosphere. Hyper-abstract black metal sound-collage? Wagnerian avant-doom psychosis? That's one way of putting it, but Gnaw Their Tongues is ultimately impossible to pin down, defying simple categorization as this album plunges even deeper into a black pit of total cinematic horror, sexual perversion, and shapeless heaviosity....

HALLOWED BUTCHERY is the alter-ego of Ryan Scott Fairfield from Kennebec County, Maine/USA, and his one-man-project brings you bizarre soundscapes between ambient, folk, industrial, progressive rock and heavy doom metal. Instead of the average doom repetitiveness, variety is the bottom line of this symphonic opus, ranging from soft melancholic acoustic passages to pure dark and slow funeral doom marches and weird synth fanfares. Lyrically, he deals with environmentalism, spirituality, religion and individuality vs. society. Altogether this results in a great album taking the listener on a trip into unknown depths of the self.

Once you think you know a band, something like this comes along. Don't get me wrong, there is still tight whirlwind blasting from these Boise boys, but what fastcore release have you ever heard of that has twenty two songs in thirty minutes? HOD has development full songs for this offering and they have really created complete album. The band's 5" and 7" really display tight drumming and amazing skill between quite a large number of songs, but this release is fully orchestrated... they even slow down and play mid-paced parts in this! The entire release never stops for a second; for fans of THE NEOS, LARM, D.R.I., NO COMMENT, and CROSSED OUT.  OVERMARS - born again CD (crucial blast) 

Previously released through Appease Me (the label run by members of Blut Aus Nord), Born Again is the latest full-length from French sludge band Overmars, a single album-long piece that descends deep into themes of horror, self-immolation, and rebirth. Overmars has already established their atmospheric, electronically tainted sludge-metal sound on splits with Donefor, Iscariote, Fuguee, and Icos as well as on their excellent 2005 album Affliction, Endocrine...Vertigo, but Born Again is something entirely new for the band. This 40-minute epic moves from pulverizing, industrial dirge blanketed with heavily textured layers of guitar to passages of dark, haunting ambience and bottom-heavy churn, while fearsome, guttural roars alternate with captivating female vocals. A magesterial finale stretches gloom-ridden, moody riffage, vaporous electronics, and dramatic singing over the song's last fifteen minutes, building into an earth-shaking crescendo.
